Currently, IT fans, cyberpunks and hackers have gathered in Las Vegas to participate in two famous technical conferences: Defcon 2018 (Caesar's Palace) and Black Hat Arsenal (Mandalay Bay).
The main topics heard at the events are all kinds of jailbreaking methods, IPSec strategies, online certificate abuse, DDoS attacks and the experience of unmanned aerial vehicles. One of the topics related to the crypto space is White Rabbit software, created by Olivia Teth and Nicholas Kseib, lead developers of the Trustar information platform. The team is demonstrating a new tool, White Rabbit, that tracks fraudulent schemes on the Bitcoin network. The software, known as White Rabbit, displays Bitcoin transactions associated with extortion or ransom demands, allowing the ultimate recipient of the transaction to be traced.
White Rabbit is a three-part model. The software begins its work by checking BTC addresses, then selects the most important parameters of the transaction data and finally, based on them, classifies the BTC addresses as “clean” or “dirty.”
The topic of an organization or program that controls the public blockchain and the blacklist of Bitcoin addresses is a controversial issue among cryptocurrency supporters. Such transaction tracking tools discredit the very idea of anonymity of cryptocurrency transactions. Thanks to attempts by regulators and law enforcement to monitor transactions, various Bitcoin mixing services are gaining popularity, designed to ensure the anonymity of transaction participants.
As the blockchain industry develops, so do hacker tools used for cyber attacks. According to the Trustar team, cybersecurity services must radically rethink existing concepts of enemy defense and monitoring. Revealing the anonymity of transactions allows law enforcement agencies to track terrorist financing schemes and cases of money laundering.
According to unverified information, US authorities have already acquired tools to track transactions on the Bitcoin network.
