Tomorrow Google is launching its new development, designed to replace YouTube Red and seriously compete with the music service Apple Music and Swedish Spotify.
Google calls the main advantage of YouTube the ability for users to access not only the official version of the song, but also a set of associated remixes, covers, live performances and music videos. In addition, the new service shifts priorities towards music (audio tracks), and music videos will fade into the background. The updated YouTube Music offers tighter integration with the Google Assistant voice assistant and, accordingly, greater personalization options. Recommendations will be based not only on your browsing history, but also take into account the time of day and current location. For example, when you are at the airport, the service will offer relaxing music, and in the gym or while jogging something more dynamic.
The free version of YouTube Music does not offer very high quality, ads and no background playback. For 11.99, YouTube Premium promises access to a library of YouTube Originals videos, no ads, and videos that can play in the background or download for offline playback.
In addition to the browser player, the company will release a separate application for YouTube Music for various devices.
YouTube hopes that its brainchild will become more personalized and convenient than those of its competitors. The launch of the new YouTube Music will be gradual. The company will not impose a new service and force users to quickly switch. But ultimately, YouTube Music should completely replace Google Play Music. At the same time, the existing Google Play Music service will continue to operate as normal. The exact date for the termination of Google Play Music has not yet been announced, but the service may cease to exist as early as next year. Residents of the USA, Australia, Mexico, Zealand and South Korea will be the first to have access to YouTube Music. The service will launch in other countries in the coming weeks. In Ukraine, YouTube Music does not yet officially work, but VPN has not been canceled and you can access the service if you wish.
