American Buddhists want to launch their own cryptocurrency, which can be received for meditations and sermons. The idea of a currency was proposed by members of the Lotos Network community. The currency will use blockchain technology.
“This currency even has a name - “Dana”. This word means “generosity”. The Lotos community believes that this is a philosophical basis that can be used to create an economy independent of the materialistic vagaries of standard currencies,” the article says.
The basis of the economy of this currency should be the so-called “karma coins”, with which Buddhists are rewarded for hours of meditation, for sermons, for good deeds. In a word, the karmic reward will still not be material, but at least materially tangible.
Subsequently, digital money can be spent exclusively on self-education villages or made donations.
Actually, this cryptocurrency (Dana) should finally bring to life the basic concept of the so-called “Buddhist economy”, which is based on the fact that maximum well-being is possible only with minimal consumption of resources.
Recall that the concept “Buddhist economics” was coined by the British economist Ernst Schumacher back in the early 50s of the last century.
We admit the idea that if Ernst Schumacher had lived to this day, he would have been able to triumphantly declare “I told you so!”
