Personal messaging app Signal is launching a payments feature using MobileCoin (MOB).
At this time, the payment feature will only be available to users in the UK and only on iOS and Android. Desktop support is not included.
In a blog post, the company said that users can link their MobileCoin wallet to Signal, send and receive funds, track their balances and view transaction histories.
The development team stressed that it does not have access to user data, and funds can be withdrawn at any time.
The news pushed up the price of the token. At the end of March it was trading around $7, at the time of writing the price is $60.
Testing cryptopayments in Signal began in January. In March, the messenger already accepted donations in cryptocurrencies.
