On August 12, the Cardano blockchain successfully carried out a hard fork of Alonzo, adding smart contract functionality.
The project developers wrote:
Our mission is just beginning. We - the entire community - are beginning to realize the vision of the project we have been working on for so long. We are building a decentralized system that will expand economic opportunity everywhere and for everyone.
The Alonzo update allows you to write smart contracts for Cardano using Plutus scripts. However, the project team urged not to place high hopes on the current functionality, as it requires improvement.
Many people have high expectations about the upgrade. Many of the expectations will not be met. Perhaps the Cardano community is already waiting for ready-to-use decentralized applications immediately after the hard fork. But these expectations should be more realistic.
