Bitcoin Cash developers have released Bitcoin ABC 0.16.2. The full implementation of the node, among other things, includes the transition to a new address format - Cashaddr, based on the Bech32 codebase.
They reported this on their Twitter
One of the benefits is that it will be used to promote the idea of introducing zero-knowledge proof into the Bitcoin Cash network. With the help of Cashaddr, QR coding and data control will also be improved. The developers also claim that the new format will create optimal conditions for ensuring a higher level of security for the implementation of smart contracts for a group of users.
The developers were prompted to update the network address by incidents with sending BCH to a BTC address.
Recall that the transition to a new address format, proposed by developer Amaury Seche in October 2017, was previously scheduled for January 14.
“To reduce confusion for users using different addresses, I think it is very important to roll out this update as soon as possible and stop the fragmentation of the environment,” Sechet explained in the developer mailing list. “It will take some time for this change to roll out to the network so that all wallets, exchanges and merchants can update.”
