The first major purchase of BTS in the new year was made on January 3 by the Bitcoin whale. Perhaps, in honor of the birthday of the block’s genesis, he purchased a large batch of BTC.
According to the service for tracking large crypto transactions Whale Alert, the third largest Bitcoin address added 456 coins to its balance. The average purchase price was $46,363, with a total transaction value of over $21.1 million.
Now the address stores 120,845.57 BTC, which is valued at $5.7 billion. The billionaire's identity remains a mystery.
For comparison, the largest institutional holder of BTC, MicroStrategy, owns 124,391 bitcoins. Elon Musk managed to purchase 48,000 BTC over the past year.
