Residents of El Salvador who pay for gas with Bitcoin using the Chivo wallet will receive a $0.20 discount for each gallon of fuel.
The President of El Salvador said that local consumers who use Chivo can now pay less for gasoline. On his Twitter he wrote:
The state-owned company Chivo has entered into an agreement with the largest network of gas stations in the country. Starting tomorrow, these gas stations will sell each gallon of gasoline $0.20 cheaper when you pay with your Chivo wallet.
Bukele stressed that these discounts will not have restrictions. They can be used by both private and legal entities who use the state Bitcoin wallet.
In the comments, not everyone supported the president’s new initiative. User Adan_3840 wrote:
We will all pay that 20 cents, right? Gas stations will not lose money; they will be compensated for their losses at the expense of taxpayers, many of whom even walk.
