George Friedman, a respected geopolitical analyst and author of The Next 100 Years: A Forecast for the 21st Century, stated that Blockchain technology will eventually become obsolete
Friedman believes that despite constant innovation, attacks on the Bitcoin network will eventually become so easy that the network will no longer be a secure store of value. The analyst prefers to draw conclusions based on historical facts, and since all the most complex means of cryptography were sooner or later deciphered, he believes that Blockchain technology will not be able to avoid this.
“I do not know of any encryption technology that would not be solved over time. I doubt that the intelligence and technical services of Russia, China and the United States could not decipher the Blockchain,” said George Friedman in an interview with CNBC.
Now the increased complexity of the consensus algorithm is one of the main guarantees of the Blockchain’s steadfastness, however, coding errors have allowed several successful attacks to be carried out. Recently, one of the algorithms on the Verge network was attacked, which allowed the extraction of an excessive number of tokens. This type of attack is very different from attacks on cryptocurrency exchanges where the culprit is a third party, since in such attacks the flaw is hidden in the Blockchain code itself.
“It is important to note that ongoing advances in quantum computing pose a potential risk to distributed ledger technology, since they can decrypt the Blockchain almost immediately after deployment,” says Friedman.
Regardless of predictions about the future of Blockchain, Friedman also applies to the present skeptical:
“Blockchain is a hype, by promoting this topic, people make money from it.”
