The leading cryptocurrency exchange in the United States announced that it will stop listing 82 altcoins by March 30. Bittrex warned its users that funds in these types of cryptocurrencies can be withdrawn from wallets until the end of the month, after which such funds will not be available.
Most of the excluded alcoins have an unreliable blockchain, were abandoned by their developers, or were used for fraudulent and manipulative schemes such as Pump&Dump.
Some of the excluded digital currencies have low liquidity on their platform. As new coins are introduced, old and abandoned ones are removed to clean up exchange listings, as well as to protect users from purchasing dying or fraudulent assets.
For certain coins and wallets, Bittrex has announced that their "hacked blockchain or wallets will not allow withdrawals" and refunds will not be provided for such funds.
Bittrex explained in a statement: "Sometimes there are circumstances that force an exchange to remove a wallet or exclude a certain type of cryptocurrency. These actions are intended to ensure that customers have access to digital tokens that continue to meet our strict listing criteria and have a properly functioning blockchain and wallet."
