Can we say that trolls have created their own cryptocurrency for trolls?

Can we say that trolls have created their own cryptocurrency for trolls?

Even if this is not the case, the cryptocurrency called bitcoin core (BTCC) is undoubtedly close to fulfilling this goal. And when we say “bitcoin core,” we don’t mean the Bitcoin that legendary crypto investor and bitcoin cash sponsor Roger Ver so loves to sling. Ironically, BTCC is a fork of Bitcoin Cash. To be more precise, BTCC is a hard fork of bitcoin cash.

After the creation of a hard fork of bitcoin cash in 2017, the purpose of which was to correct the bitcoin mining algorithm, a small group of participants broke away from its blockchain and created a new digital currency called “bitcoin clashic”. However, due to the fact that bitcoin clashic did not provide solutions to current problems, after a few months it completely disappeared from the market.

A couple of weeks ago, another small group of developers created a fork of bitcoin clashic - bitcoin core (BTCC). On Twitter, they described their project as follows:

Our project is your good friend and companion. Unlike the other guy who is constantly trying to steal your girl.”

This comment, although extremely ambiguous, tells us that the purpose of BTCC is to complement Bitcoin, not compete with it. And it also clearly shows us that the BTCC developers are partly trolling Mr. Ver.

At the moment, Roger Ver's mission is to convince everyone that bitcoin cash is the real bitcoin. According to his statements, the bitcoin cash protocol much better reflects the concept conceived by Satoshi Nakamoto. On his website bitcoin.com, Ver refers to bitcoin cash as “bitcoin” and refers to Bitcoin as “bitcoin core.”

Although the “Bitcoin” trademark has no owner, many crypto enthusiasts were outraged by Ver’s antics. Some of them argued that changing the names could lead to confusion among new investors. It seems that the developers behind the creation of BTCC agree with Ver's opponents. The BTCC developers initially mocked Roger Ver on their website, claiming that the bitcoin core was considered by him to be the “real” bitcoin (this post was later changed). The cryptocurrency's main block explorer is called “truevisionofsatoshi.com” (exactly as Satoshi intended), referencing a phrase beloved by bitcoin cash fans.

The team behind BTCC also mocks other prominent BCH supporters, such as John McAffee, who made his fortune selling antivirus software and now charges more $100,000 for advertising the token on Twitter.

The naming war began when opponents of cash bitcoin started calling it “bcash”.. Although some bcash users tried to explain to others that this name was created only to eliminate confusion between bitcoin cash and bitcoin, bitcoin cash fans were outraged by the new nickname.

According to Eli Afram, founder of bitcoin cash Australia:

When the bitcoin cash fork first appeared, many bitcoin core supporters were so scared that they did not even dare to call it by name, so they called it “bcash”.

Since then, many cycles of naming wars have passed. Bitcoin cash supporters began to call bitcoin “bitcoin core”. Therefore, they can hardly laugh heartily at the jokes and jabs at the BTCC development team.

Roger Ver recently told CoinDesk reporters that “there is no point in commenting on the BTCC situation.”

The network will work

Despite the fact that many people regard BTCC as a stupid attempt to make fun of Ver, the cryptocurrency developers, as they themselves say, are trying to distance themselves from the name war, according to the spokesperson. The BTCC team is not at all opposed to being laughed at for their antics, but at the same time, the developers take their project with the utmost seriousness.

Some members of the community decided to have fun and attract attention,” the spokesperson said. “Despite this, the bitcoin core developers are committed to creating a unique product that will adhere to the core values, as well as increase the speed of transactions and strengthen the level of security.

The spokesperson added that The developers are planning a hard fork soon, which will make some changes to the protocol. The developers want to add the ability to conduct confidential transfers because they believe that Bitcoin does not provide its users with the necessary level of security.

And yet their statements are difficult to take seriously, because the official social networks of the cryptocurrency are filled to the brim with mocking comments. Even such famous crypto philosophers as Jameson Lopp decided that the news about BTCC was a good reason to post a joke on Twitter, to which Bitcoin investor Alistair Milne responded: “Trolling level 1001.”
