It's not easy being a non-crypter

A noncrypter (English nocoiner), according to the online slang dictionary, is someone who does not have bitcoin. But not everyone who doesn't have bitcoin is necessarily a noncrypter. Rather, what makes a noncrypter a noncrypter is not simply the absence of cryptocurrency in his investment portfolio, but a sanctimonious attitude towards it.

A definition in the online Urban Dictionary, which was published in December around the time the word was coming into widespread use in the bitcoin community, describes a noncrypter as:

“...people who missed out on an opportunity to buy bitcoin at a low price and who are now angry that they missed out on that opportunity. The noncrypter turns his anger towards bitcoin owners, constantly claiming that the price of bitcoin will collapse, that cryptocurrency is worthless, that it is a bubble, and the like."

In other words, the noncrypter is full of anger over his own mistake.

A Twitter user known as @crackbagged addressed this topic in a post last June, warning bitcoin owners not to gloat when the price reaches $1 million:

"People who you talked about bitcoin, they may turn away from you or insult you. You could be accused of witchcraft, burned at the stake, or worse. The noncrypter has dark thoughts about you because he missed the opportunity and you didn't." Marco Santori, a lawyer who has supported bitcoin startups since the beginning and is now the president and general counsel of a wallet service provider on Blockchain, recently tweeted that he doesn't like the word noncrypter, that it divides people into "us" and "them" and sows animosity.

Noncrypters aren't just skeptical. are determined, they want bitcoin to fail. They are not just expressing doubts about the use of cryptocurrency, they are unequivocally stating that there are no use cases, and all use is fraudulent or illegal.

The first use of the term "noncrypter" on Twitter is believed to be in February 2017, although the term has apparently been used on the 4chan forums for several years.

At the end of the 19th century, Nietzsche compared the noncrypters of his time to tarantulas: “In their every complaint there is a sound of vengeance; and to be judges seems to them bliss.”
