South Koreans Collect Signatures to Stop Ban on Cryptocurrency Trading

Approximately one hundred thousand South Korean citizens have signed a petition calling on the government to stop the crackdown on cryptocurrencies and cancel the planned ban bill.

Immediately after this, representatives of the Korean Ministry of Strategy and Finance stated that they do not support the decision of the Ministry of Justice and its head Sangki Park to ban cryptocurrency trading. Among all the petitions, by the way, the petition to ban cryptocurrencies and the petition asking for the removal of Park Sangki from office received the largest number of signatures. The petition read: "Today, Justice Minister Park Sangki single-handedly issued a decision to ban cryptocurrencies, which was not agreed upon by either the government or the Ministry of Strategy and Finance. His actions caused losses to thousands of South Korean investors. Considering that the minister did not act on behalf of the government and that his statement led to billions of dollars in losses, he must resign as minister and bear responsibility for his actions."

A few hours later from the Blue House - South Korean government building - a message was received that the government is not going to introduce a ban, and that all statements by Minister Sangki are his personal opinion, which does not coincide with the opinion of the government and the Ministry of Justice. This means, most likely, that the Minister of Justice will not be punished for his actions and will not be removed from office. The government may require the Park to issue a public apology given the scale of the losses.
