The developers of the Polygon network paid a white hat hacker $2 million to discover a bug that threatened to lose about $850 million.
The bounty program of the Polygon network has been in effect since the end of September. On October 5, cybersecurity specialist Gerhard Wagner discovered a vulnerability in the Plasma security system that could allow fraudsters to bypass the security mechanism and withdraw one declared amount up to 223 times. So, an initial deposit of $100 thousand could be withdrawn 223 times and get $22.3 million.
It took the Polygon team 30 minutes to verify Wagner’s information and fix the vulnerability.
According to Immunefi, this is the highest reward for a white hat hacker in the history of the world of decentralized finance (DeFi).
