Bitcoin will be auctioned

The United States Marshals Service has issued an auction notice for $4.3 million worth of Bitcoin. The auction will take place on November 5, 2018. The notice also sets out the instructions and requirements for participation in the tender.

The auction fund is approximately 660 BTC, the required deposit for participation is $200,000. All digital coins were seized as part of the asset forfeiture program from criminal, civil and administrative offenders.

Bidding will be divided into Series A (6 blocks of 100 Bitcoins) and Series B (1 block of 60 Bitcoins). Bidders will not have the opportunity to see other people's bids. They will also not have the opportunity to change their bid once it is submitted. Participants must notify their intention to participate in the auction in advance. Registration will take place from October 22 to October 31. 

Buyers will not be able to bid or otherwise participate in the auction unless they have submitted all required documents and received confirmation that they are eligible. Bidders who wish to place multiple bids on multiple different blocks will be required to complete an additional registration process and deposit additional funds.

The online auction will take place on Monday, November 5, 2018 from 8:00 a.m. to 2:00 p.m. (EST). Bids placed before or after the online auction will not be considered. Bids that do not meet the requirements will not be considered.


The U.S. Marshals Service plays a key role in identifying and assessing funds obtained from illegal activities and also handles the sale of assets seized and seized by the Department of Justice. Proceeds from the sale of assets go to support the operation of the service, compensation for victims, as well as to support various actions of law enforcement agencies.
