Blockchain will help stop child labor in Congo

Mobile phone companies intend to use blockchain technology to track work and production processes to curb child labor

For several years now, many mobile phone manufacturing companies have been accused of using child labor. This is due to the fact that the largest amount of cobalt, which is used to make batteries, is mined by children in mines in the Congo.

According to Reuters, a pilot version of a blockchain solution to track cobalt mining in the Congo will soon be launched. At the same time, using the application, it will be possible to trace the entire path that the material goes through: from extraction in the mines to the ready-made battery in the phone reaching the end consumer.

At the Core Consultants conference, a presentation of the technology was published. It was also said that all collected facts and evidence can be tracked in the blockchain.

As you know, parts of modern gadgets are made from cobalt - it is used in lithium-ion batteries for smartphones and laptops.
