"Budget" iPhone 9 may be late

"Budget" iPhone 9 may be late

The defective LCD panel with a “monobrow” cutout forces Apple to delay the release of the “budget” iPhone 9 until the supply companies ensure the quality of the supplied LCD displays.

This year, Apple has upset its users with problems with smartphones iPhone X and deliberate slowdowns iPhone with a worn-out battery. However, despite the setbacks, Trend Force analysts are confident that Apple will have great success this year.

The company was actively preparing for the release of the new iPhone 9 smartphone. A video about what the new iPhone smartphone, which will receive a 6.1-inch IPS display, will look like appeared online only last week. The three-dimensional image debunked many rumors and assumptions and showed the similarity of the new product with the iPhone 8 and iPhone X at the same time.

However, Apple's next announcement will disappoint users and make them wait until November for the release of the new iPhone 9. For the second time, this will break the tradition of releasing new Apple products by September. Last year, the company had to delay the release of the iPhone X due to the TrueDepth front camera system, which came with a high percentage of defects. Apple is quite demanding on the quality of components for its devices and prefers to delay the announced release until the technical problems of the screen are resolved.

The release of the “budget” iPhone 9 depends on the suppliers of LCD displays, JDI and LG Display. To date, companies have not been able to technically solve the problem of cutting out a “unibrow” in the LCD panel of a smartphone without damaging it. Without such a technical solution, launching mass production of models is impossible. Despite their experience and solid reputation in the industry, JDI and LG Display are not yet able to get rid of light artifacts in the notch area and reduce the defect rate.

The release of new iPhones with 5.8- and 6.5-inch OLED displays has also been announced for this year. It is not yet known whether there will be a delay in their release.
