Thai police arrested a cyber fraudster from Russia

Thai police arrested Russian Sergei Medvedev, who is considered one of the creators of the international Internet platform Infraud. The Infraud website under the motto “In Fraud We Trust” was created in 2010 in Ukraine by Svyatoslav Bondarenko.

Medvedev, who fled to Thailand six years ago, was arrested last Friday. The task force detained Medvedev in his apartment in Bangkok, where he lived with his Thai wife. The apartment was searched and a laptop and some documents were seized. According to the discovered evidence, Medvedev was found in possession of bitcoins in the equivalent of more than 800 million US dollars.

At the request of the US Federal Bureau of Investigation, the Thai Crime Division conducted an investigation and confirmed that 31-year-old Russian citizen Sergei Medvedev was selling goods obtained illegally through the Internet platform Infraud. Among other things, the range of such goods included stolen credit cards and personal data of the owners. According to unconfirmed reports, Medvedev also sold drugs, illegally obtained weapons, stolen credit card PINs, rare protected animals and illegally obtained government documents.

Visitors to the site could buy and sell bank credit card data and personal information of their owners to make purchases of various goods on the Internet, deceiving cardholders, bank card issuers and goods suppliers. The Infraud website operated automated trading platforms to facilitate the process of buying and selling bank card data and cardholder identification data. The FBI is going to investigate this case in several more countries.

On Wednesday, the US Department of Justice announced indictments against 36 people, not including Sergei Medvedev, accused of carrying out a criminal enterprise selling stolen credit cards and personal information, which caused losses of $530 million.

It is also reported that the FBI and Italian police on Tuesday seized computer servers in Italy belonging to the international criminal group Infraud.
