Operators of the LockBit ransomware claim to have stolen the personal data of users and administrators of the PayBito crypto exchange.
The notorious LockBit ransomware gang hacked PayBito, a cryptocurrency exchange run by HashCash.
The group announced on February 3 on its official darknet website. In their message, the LockBit operators stated that the stolen database contains personal information of clients in the US and other countries of the world.
The database of more than 100 thousand users of the crypto exchange company “HashCashConsultant” now has Personal data of clients from the US and around the world. Administrators' personal information, administrator email addresses and hashes. If you want to buy data, contact us.
LockBit threatens to publish the stolen records on February 21 if the crypto exchange does not pay it a ransom.
The exchange has not yet released official comments about the hack.
Lockbit ransomware appeared on the threat spectrum back in September 2019 and made a splash in June 2021 after the launch of LockBit 2.0. The gang claims to offer "the fastest data exfiltration on the market through StealBit." Malware is distributed through phishing spams, botnets, exploits, advertising, fake updates or an infected installer. The virus allows scammers access to the remote desktop.
