According to Reuters, citing The Register, due to a hacker attack, 4,200 sites in the US and UK were mining the Monero cryptocurrency from user computers. Moreover, some of them belonged to government organizations.
The virus was sent to the Browsealoud application, which helps people with low vision. The program, infected with a virus, mined cryptocurrency through user computers, and the extracted capital ended up in the hacker account.
Law enforcement agencies in both countries have not yet commented on the situation. The main office of Texthelp, which is the developer of Browsealoud, said that the application has been temporarily disabled until the investigation is completed.
It was previously reported that hidden Monero miners are also infecting advertising banners on Youtube in several countries.
