An Indian couple will have a wedding in the metaverse with thousands of guests, including the "ghost" of the bride's late father.
In India, traditional weddings are celebrated on a large scale and magnificently, but Covid restrictions do not allow inviting more than 100 guests. The couple found an unconventional solution in a modern style.
The groom, a 24-year-old IT specialist, decided to build his own little virtual world. As Harry Potter fans, the couple opted for a Hogwarts-themed party. Guests won't need to wear virtual reality (VR) headsets and can join the celebration through a simple web browser—they just need the correct login credentials. The wedding is scheduled for February 6.
In addition to the opportunity to invite a large number of guests who otherwise would not be able to attend, the newlyweds will be blessed in the digital space by the bride's late father. The groom created a 3D avatar resembling his father-in-law, who died last year.
The couple promoted the wedding to their Twitter and Instagram followers, with 2,000 people confirming their presence and another 5,000 volunteering to attend.
