The Lufthansa Innovation Center (LIH) and SAP.iO Berlin Foundry have teamed up to launch the world's first aviation Global Blockchain Challenge. The recently announced competition is essentially a way to bring awareness to the use of blockchain technology in the Travel and Mobility Tech fields.
The largest German airline Lufthansa has teamed up with corporate IT giant SAP to launch the Aviation Blockchain Challenge. The initiative is aimed at generating and creating innovative ideas based on blockchain technology, which will ultimately facilitate travel and the operation of airlines.
The partnership of two multinational industry leaders with strong science, technology and innovation cultures provides the best opportunity to attract relevant talent on a global scale. Talented blockchain technology specialists are offered a platform to present their projects and a favorable environment for their implementation.
Projects in the Blockchain Aviation Challenge are divided into three areas:
- Airline
- Traveler
- Supplier
The Airline Challenge will focus on improving airline-related operations, such as communication between departments and organizational lines.
The Traveler Challenge is looking for projects from booking and purchasing air tickets to loyalty programs and identification of passengers at the airport.
In the Supplier category - ideas for all aspects of aviation supplies, from document tracking and data digitization, to quality control of supplied products.
The Blockchain Aviation Challenge starts with the stage of submitting ideas, which will be accepted until August 31. Participants will receive feedback from experts in aviation, business modeling, and Blockchain technologies. At the final stage at the Lufthansa Innovation Forum, the best projects will be announced. Projects submitted to SAP Blockchain and LIH specialists will have the opportunity to be implemented on the basis of the Lufthansa Group.
Lufthansa airline takes an active interest in Blockchain technology and is a partner of the Swiss blockchain startup Winding Tree. In addition, Lufthansa collaborated with blockchain startup Unibright.
