Cryptocurrency scammers are now pretending to be John McAfee in order to steal Bitcoin and Ethereum from unsuspecting users. And here's an unexpected twist - scammers are offering a brand new Tesla Model 3 as bait for the victim.
“If you send 2 BTC or 20 ETH, you will receive the main prize - a custom Tesla Model 3, signed by John McAfee, shipping paid,” the Medium post says.
However, this time Medium and McAfee have nothing to do with it. The URL appears to be fake, but the scammers did their best to copy the real Medium page (although some flaws are still noticeable). According to whois information, the domain was created two days ago.
Scammers ask users to send a small amount of BTC or ETH to verify their account, after which they will receive more cryptocurrency than they sent. Sounds like a win-win!
Unfortunately, it doesn't work that way. The site is filled with comments from users claiming to have made huge profits. Of course, all these comments are fake. A deceived user who would have sent BTC or ETH would have received nothing. Moreover, most of the links on this site are dead, and the ones that are working redirect back to the Medium home page. Moreover, regular users are not allowed to comment on this post.
The good news is that no one has yet taken the bait of a shiny new Tesla. Hard Fork examined the Bitcoin and Ethereum addresses listed on the site - they still have not received funds.
Any project that promises you money “for beautiful eyes” is clearly too good to be true. Never forget that free cheese only comes in a mousetrap.
