The producers said that "the overall message of the film is positive," despite the fact that it is a thriller about crime and corruption. In an interview with Inverse, producers Jordan Yale Levine and Jordan Beckerman of Yale Productions admitted that neither of them "consider themselves experts in actual cryptocurrency."
“We both put in the work, but I don’t think either of us considers ourselves an expert. It was actually our writers who brought the theme to life and did the research. So they actually became experts to make sure that the film is authentic.”
Inverse reports that real crypto enthusiasts may not be very happy with the film: “No specific cryptocurrency is central to it. But the message there is positive, even though the film is about crime, corruption and cryptocurrency.”
The film is expected to be released next year and will be shot in the genre of a classic thriller, telling the shadowy cryptocurrency relations. The main roles will be played by Kurt Russell, Alexis Bledel, Luke Hemsworth and Beau Knapp.
"We hope that cryptocurrency is with us for a long time. That's one of the reasons we made this film, because we didn't want to invest in the short-term. We have a great cast: Bledel won an Emmy, Kurt Russell is a legend, so the film has every chance," say the producers.
According to the Hollywood reporter, "Crypto" is a film about a young anti-money laundering agent (Knapp) living in New York, far from his hometown. While his father (Russell) and brother (Hemsvroth) try to save their family farm, the agent is "tasked with solving the mystery of corruption and cryptocurrency fraud."
Crypto was filmed out of town, but we also shot a couple of days in New York, says Yale Levine.
