A Russian court has reversed its decision to block 40 crypto exchangers

The United Press Service of the Courts of St. Petersburg reports that the City Court of St. Petersburg has overturned last year’s decision of the St. Petersburg Oktyabrsky Court to block 40 sites related to cryptocurrencies.

The court justified the decision to block forty online platforms for cryptocurrency exchange the fact that digital currency “is not backed by real value, does not contain information about its holders and, being outside the legal framework, does not provide the opportunity to implement legal mechanisms to ensure the fulfillment of obligations by the parties to the transaction.”

Moreover, the court noted that “the free dissemination of information about electronic currency determines the active use of cryptocurrency in the trade in drugs, weapons, counterfeit documents and other criminal activities.”

The leading lawyer of RosKomSvoboda and the Center for the Protection of Digital Rights, Sarkis Darbinyan, announced that the case was sent for re-examination by a new panel of judges. Despite the fact that this is not yet a complete victory, the lawyer believes that this is a very important result.

“It remains to finish the court of first instance with arguments so that St. Petersburg prosecutors would be discouraged from filing such claims again,” Sargsyan wrote on his Facebook page.
