The new Face ID protection technology, advertised at the presentation of the iPhone X, malfunctioned. Apple will replace iPhone X free of charge if its 3D facial scanning technology fails.
On the MacRumors resource, along with links to internal company documents, information has appeared that authorized Apple service centers will not only repair the screen if Face ID works with errors, but will also completely replace the user’s gadget with a new one. This service will be completely free.
The document recommended that Apple Authorized Service Providers first run diagnostics on the iPhone X's rear camera and possibly restore the Face ID system. There is probably some kind of connection between the rear camera and the TrueDepth system, such assumptions have been made before, but not supported by evidence, although even now this relationship is not entirely clear. In fact, this can be considered the first indirect confirmation of the assumptions that the True Depth front camera, located in the display cutout, and the second module (telephoto) of the main camera are interconnected.
If the problem is not solved by replacing the camera, then a complete replacement of the iPhone X with a new smartphone is now allowed, the document says.
Apple has not officially commented on this situation and has not launched an official repair program, limiting itself to internal recommendations to service centers.
Recall that this method is based on infrared scanning, which is used to create a three-dimensional model of the user’s face. As representatives of the corporation said, Face ID can even work in the dark, and also provided that the owner of the smartphone is wearing a hat.
But after the release, Apple warned about the unexpected properties of Face ID, recommending that persons under 13 years of age not use the system, associating this with the formation of appearance characteristics precisely before this age. In addition, the system can give false positives to Face ID for siblings of users, and especially twins.
Despite another problem with the iPhone X smartphones, TrendForce analysts are confident that Apple is expecting great success this year. The company is working to improve the main functions of flagship smartphones: Face ID and screen resolution.
