Content on YouTube, Twitch and Wikipedia can be funded using XRP (Ripple)

This opportunity will be provided to users thanks to the development of Stefan Thomas, a former employee of Ripple Labs. His company has already launched a beta version of a browser extension called Coil, with which people can “tip” directly in XRP tokens. Although the concept is borrowed from Changetip, a now-defunct Bitcoin app, Coil positions itself as a way for the internet to exist without relying on advertising.

For decades, people have been discussing the potential of micropayments to support content creators. We believe that Coil will help get rid of the broken system of the Internet that depends on advertising. Until now, micropayments and subscriptions have always been designed as closed systems that cannot accommodate the vast amount of content on the Internet.

Coil is actually the first application that will pay websites using Web Monetization, which will allow browsers to pay websites. According to company executives, Coil will be compatible with the largest and most famous sites, such as YouTube, Wikipedia, Twitch, Internet Archive, and Beat.

The launch of Coil could be the next step towards general adoption of tokens, especially in the case of subscription content. Discussions on various forums are filled with links to websites that offer up-to-date data for a monthly fee. A subscription to such a website gives the user unlimited access to the content. However, in reality, users rarely view all or even most of the information. The only solution offered in this case is pay-per-view.

Coil can be a convenient tool for such a solution. The browser extension will accept XRP for viewing an article, video, or listening to audio.

The crypto market is still at an early stage of development, but in the future such innovations can change this. In the meantime, the Coil browser extension can at least increase the bullish potential of XRP tokens, which are already in good demand.
