An unknown miner who made a fortune from Bitcoin decided to donate a significant part of his capital to charity

“My goals and motivations in life have nothing to do with having XX million or being super rich. So I decided to do something different: donate the majority of my Bitcoins to charity. I call it the “Pineapple Fund,” wrote this anonymous philanthropist.

“I remember when I started getting into Bitcoin a couple of years ago. After it hit double digits, I thought it was a moment of triumph for Bitcoin. I watched and marveled at the price jumping to $15, $20, $30. Wow!

Today I see how Bitcoin is already worth $17,539. I still sometimes don’t believe in the reality of what is happening. Bitcoin has changed my life and I now have way more money than I can spend,” this person wrote on Reddit. In the comments, he replied to users that the name was chosen for two reasons - firstly, he likes pineapple, and secondly, such a domain was free: “Retrospective metaphor: you know that pineapple is very tasty, but if you eat too much, your mouth and tongue start to hurt? The solution is to share the pineapple with other people.”

In three days, the Pineapple Foundation transferred a million dollars in bitcoins to several non-profit organizations. In particular, the cryptocurrency was sent to such organizations as Watsi, which is engaged in a crowdfunding platform for healthcare, The Water Project, which solves the problem of the lack of clean drinking water in Africa, the Electronic Frontier Foundation, which protects the rights of Internet users, and others.

The benefactor also sent $500 thousand to the BitGive Foundation, which uses blockchain for philanthropic purposes.

As proof of Bitcoin ownership, the creator of Pineapple Fund provided links to transactions in the blockchain. In total, he had 5,057 bitcoins at the time of donation, or approximately $86 million

Representatives of public organizations can fill out an application to receive funds from an anonymous donor. But the fund will not transfer bitcoins to individuals.

The Pineapple Fund website (http://pineapplefund.org) states that a project that wants to receive help must be registered as a non-profit organization. However, in some cases exceptions are permitted. It is not reported what criteria the founder of the Pineapple Fund is guided by when choosing organizations.

The author of the fund himself does not want to communicate with journalists: the FAQ on the organization’s website states that creating a public image is not the purpose of these donations.
